Mounted on the reverse of the passe-partout at the corners in a few places. - Barely visible discolouration; a few very slight, smoothed creases in the lower corners; a small tear (approx. 0.5 cm) on the upper left edge; overall in very good condition. An absolutely superb, vibrantly coloured print of the full-format illustration. Mourlot 317. According to the ancient tale, the foundlings Daphnis and Chloe grow up on the Aegean island of Lesbos, spend their childhood with shepherds, are separated from one another, are reunited, fall in love and eventually come across their parents. An ancient story steeped in bucolic tradition, transported by Chagall into the modern age. Colour lithograph on wove paper. Verso spot-mounted at the corners to the mat’s back. - Barely visible browning, very slight smoothed crease marks in the lower corners, small marginal tear in the top left (approx. 0.5 cm); all in all, very good condition.
