Description
Contemporary Art
Riemer, Angelik
DOTS 2010-06. 2010. Egg tempera on canvas. 60 x 60 cm. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse, with further details of the work. - Very slight and barely visible scuffing in places along the edges. Overall in very good condition. The abstract composition has a strikingly vibrant colour effect.
Angelik Riemer chose the historically significant pigment Paris Blue, also known as Prussian Blue, as the base colour for her abstract work. In this work, too, the deeply darkened ground bears the coloured circular forms – white, red, green, cyan, blue – just as a night sky bears its stars. The special application of the powdered pigments, mixed with egg tempera, creates fascinating, flowing transitions within the layers of colour, which contribute to the luminous, atmospheric effect of the motif and lend the work its almost cosmological character. The work belongs to the artist’s late period, which Riemer herself described as a ‘multi-coloured pointillist interaction’.
