Description
Contemporary Art
Riemer, Angelik
4-part work. Cycle, red. 2008. Each piece in egg tempera on canvas. Each 18 x 18 cm. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse, along with further details of the work and installation instructions. – Minimal and barely noticeable wear to the edges in places. Overall in very good condition. The abstract composition, comprising four panels, produces a strikingly intense and high-contrast colour effect.
The four canvases, all of equal size, come together to form an overall composition in which large-scale forms in orange-red and ultramarine flow across the Paris blue background and continue from one section of the picture to the next. The principle of multi-part composition runs through Riemer’s entire oeuvre and is condensed here into a coherent circular form that incorporates all four individual sections. The work belongs to his late period, in which his previous creative phases became increasingly synthesised. The colours, mixed from pigments with egg tempera and applied directly to the support, develop an extraordinary luminosity that heightens the contrast between the warm red and the cool blue against the dark background to maximum intensity.
