Description
Contemporary Art
Flad, Wolfgang
Untitled (dark side of the moon). 2026. Mixed media. 50 x 39 cm. Signed, titled and stamped with the artist’s mark ‘Flad Wolfgang’ on the reverse. Framed in an object frame and under coloured mirrored glass (unopened). – Overall in very good and immaculate condition.
Wolfgang Flad, who trained at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and now lives in Berlin, works at the intersection of sculpture, relief and painting. The focus is always on the surface, which is shaped in various ways and made visible in its materiality. The ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ series takes the moon as a symbol of the hidden: The crater-like, chiselled relief surface evokes the side of the moon hidden from view, whilst the coloured mirrored glass in front superimposes an iridescent veil of colour that varies depending on the angle of the light. Sculptural presence and painterly effect thus intertwine, with the work presenting itself to the viewer in ever-changing refractions of light and colour. Flad’s works are held in major public collections, including the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Centraal Museum Utrecht.
