Description
Contemporary Art
Frintrop, Max
Untitled, 2017. Mixed media with acrylic on canvas. 30 x 24 cm. Signed and dated on the reverse. – In very good condition.
Navigating the tension between formal freedom and conceptual rigour, Max Frintrop builds on the painterly questions posed by his teacher Albert Oehlen, without adopting the latter’s ironic and detached attitude. His painterly practice is situated within the tradition of gestural abstraction, whilst simultaneously drawing on aspects of colour-field painting and Spatialism. His works reflect on the painting process as a performative act and, through the superimposition of areas of colour and traces of paint, create a visual narrative that oscillates between surface, space and movement. - Max Frintrop studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 2003 to 2009 as a master student under Albert Oehlen and has since developed an independent artistic voice within contemporary abstract painting. The artist’s works have been featured in numerous national and international exhibitions and are held in public collections, including the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
