5 works: ‘Europapilder Blau-Gold’. c. 1994–1996. Mixed media with acrylic and ink on vellum mounted on a wooden panel. Each 47.5 x 65 cm. One work signed and titled on the reverse. Each in a shadow-joint frame. – Edges partly bumped and with some wear to the vellum. Reverse partly with mounting holes in the wooden backing. 1 work with minimal brown spots. 1 work with very slight paint wear. – Overall in good condition. Excellent works rendered in intense shades of blue.
Bernd Schwarzer is one of the most influential figures in contemporary German painting. Since the 1980s, his work has engaged intensively with themes such as identity, history and political symbolism. A key focus of his oeuvre is his so-called ‘Europe paintings’, in which he explores Europe as a cultural and political space of experience and meaning.
