Contemporary Art Colour-field painting Matino, Vittorio Fenice Segreta. 2006. Acrylic on canvas. 104 x 65.5 cm. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse. – The canvas has very slight pressure marks. Overall in very good condition. The colours are vibrant. The work has been included in the catalogue raisonné, which is currently in press. - Vittorio Matino is one of the leading figures in Italian colour-field painting. He became known for his large-scale, abstract compositions of vivid colour intensity, in which colour takes centre stage as an independent means of expression. His work is characterised by vertically oriented compositions, created by applying paint in layers with a palette knife and subsequently revealing the underlying layers of colour. Inspired by his engagement with non-European art traditions, Matino developed a distinctive visual language that transcends both geometric and gestural abstraction. His work was presented in 2015 as part of ‘Frontiers Reimagined’ at the 56th Venice Biennale. Acrylic on canvas. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse. – Canvas with very minor pressure marks.
