Contemporary Art
Bustamante, Jean-Marc
Lumière. 2003. Colour silkscreen print on Plexiglas. 60 x 60 cm. With accompanying original certificate, signed and numbered here. Comes with metal clips for mounting. - Overall in very good condition. A magnificent, richly coloured print of the full-format composition, with vibrant and fresh colours.
One of 50 copies. – Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York, to mark the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003. - This edition is a fragment of a large-format painting of the same title, which Jean-Marc Bustamante created as France’s contribution to the 2003 Venice Biennale in the Pavillon des Amazones. The ghostly-looking image, taken from the internet, alludes to a diffuse perception of reality that oscillates between photography and painting. Due to the partial transparency of the acrylic glass, the ‘Lumières’ appear to glow from within, as the light reflected from the wall shines through them – a presence bordering on absence, like a memory hovering in the mind.
