Description
Contemporary Art
Bustamante, Jean-Marc
Trophée. 2006. Colour silkscreen print on Plexiglas, set in galvanised metal. 24 x 18 cm (60 x 50 x 4 cm). Signed and numbered on the reverse on a label. – Very sporadic scuffing on the reverse. Overall, very good condition. A magnificent, colour-rich print with an opaque sheen, its contours emphasised by the mounted metal frame, which contrasts with its matt surface.
One of 25 copies. – Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/Berlin, for the Kunsthaus Bregenz in 2006. – The title ‘Trophée’ refers to a group of works in which Bustamante transfers drawings onto Plexiglas panels using screen printing. For this work, created to mark his exhibition at the Kunsthaus Bregenz, Bustamante chose an animal motif that characteristically strikes a balance between a naturalistic, recognisable form and a purely abstract, self-assuredly placed colour symbol. The bright orange bird, cut from metal, condenses this tension into an emblematic visual formula that is both figurative and abstract, oscillating between ornament and precise composition.
