Mirror. 2013. Archival inkjet print on baryta fine art paper. Viewing dimensions 62 x 51 cm. Framed with a mat and under glass in the artist’s frame (unopened). Signed, dated, titled, numbered and marked ‘a.p.’ on the reverse of the frame backing. – Appears to be in very good condition; an expressive, finely nuanced print.
The first of only two artist’s proof copies. – From: The American Series. – In his series The American Series, Oskar Schmidt engages in a critical examination of issues relating to art and photographic history. His source material consists of photographs by Walker Evans, which Evans took in the 1930s on behalf of the Farm Security Administration (FSA) during the Great Depression in the southern United States. Schmidt transposes these seminal documentary photographs into the present day by reconstructing their settings in his studio at their original scale and subsequently reinterpreting them using a large-format camera.
