Description
Contemporary Art
Tuymans, Luc
17 works. In: When Spring Comes. 2007. Each a digital pigment print on semi-transparent paper, mounted on vellum. Dimensions range from 13 x 10 to 27.5 x 41 cm (50 x 40 cm). Signed and numbered in the colophon. – Overall in very good condition. Excellent prints with a calm, atmospheric colour effect.
Sellink/Simoens, p. 202ff. – One of 60 copies each. – Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York to mark the exhibition of the same name at the Haus der Kunst, Munich, 2008. - The portfolio, which in its outward form draws on the presentation culture of the Nazi era, brings together 17 reproductions based on the artist’s paintings that were on display at the exhibition at the Haus der Kunst. The images transform photographic source material into atmospheric versions of the originals, rendered ghostly and eerie through soft focus and colour contrasts, thereby exploring notions of fading memory, power and its devastating consequences in the 20th century. The ironically menacing title of the portfolio deliberately contrasts with the gravity of the pictorial themes – a technique typical of Tuymans, using banality to create a sense of alienation.
