Description
Conceptual Art
Darboven, Hanne
Untitled (this day 28.8.94). 1994. Fibre-tip pen on folded packing paper. 74.5 x 100 cm. Signed, dated and with a personal dedication. – Visible creases, some of which are slightly yellowed and have partial light discolouration at the edges. Partially slightly crumpled in the upper left section. Overall, very good condition. A striking composition reduced to the depiction of a temporal process.
A drawing by Hanne Darboven, executed in felt-tip pen on packing paper, which illustrates central aspects of her conceptual practice: the visualisation of time, the inscription of the subjective within serial structures, and the interlinking of biographical and material dimensions. The title refers to a specific day and place – a strategy through which Darboven documents individual moments in a documentary manner whilst simultaneously transforming them aesthetically. This approach reflects the post-1960s trends in conceptual art, in which process, time and language take centre stage in contrast to traditional genres. - Similar drawings form part of the installation ‘Children of This World’ (1990–96), which was exhibited at Art Basel Unlimited 2014, amongst other venues.
