By neither painting nor drawing, but instead conceiving, writing and organising her art with radical consistency, her dense interweaving of number sequences and notations results in a spatialisation and visualisation of time in its various forms – as the span of a life, as time spent working and writing, and as historical time. With *Lustig ist das Zigeunerleben* (The Gypsy Life Is Fun), she uses the title of a well-known verse from a German children’s song to create a complex, artistic and political reflection on social clichés, historical marginalisation and perception, playing with repetitive structures, text fragments and cultural references. 31 offset lithographs. Each on smooth wove paper. With the title page including imprint. Loose in the original cardboard folder. – Upper leaves with barely noticeable bumps at the corners. Very good overall. Excellent, high-contrast and strong impressions. - One of 250 copies. - First edition of the portfolio, self-published by the artist in Hamburg in 1980. - Hanne Darboven, a great pioneer of conceptual art in Germany, examines the passage of time, the systems of order in the world and the power of writing in her strictly conceptual, yet at the same time very personal and direct art.
