This work was part of the installation ‘Lost in Munich’ at the Haus der Kunst in Munich, which took place on 14 November 1997 to mark the publication of the 46th edition of SZ-Magazin, designed by Christian Boltanski. The French artist created a photographic portrait of the city using objects handed in to the municipal lost property office between 5 and 13 October 1997. The work is characteristic of Boltanski’s oeuvre, which explores universal themes of memory and the disappearance of individual destinies.
