Description
Conceptual Art
Holzer, Jenny
Money creates Taste. 2004. Engraved glass object. 7.5 x 7.5 x 7.5 cm. In its original box and with accompanying certificate, signed and numbered here. - Overall in very good and clean condition.
One of 90 copies. - Published by Kunstverein Ulm, 2004. - Since the late 1970s, the short, apodictically formulated statements known as ‘Truisms’ have been at the heart of Jenny Holzer’s work. The phrases and words, which are modelled on existing maxims and clichés, condense difficult, often controversial ideas into seemingly self-evident truths. In this edition, the phrase ‘Money Creates Taste’ is etched into glass, causing the words to appear distorted when viewed through the material. As a design device, this optical refraction subverts the apparent unambiguity of the statement and makes the instability of any supposed truth perceptible to the senses.
