Description
Abstract Expressionism
Twombly, Cy
Untitled (Detail of Painting), from: Re-Object/Mythos. 2002/07. Ditone on Inova paper. 31 x 32.3 cm (81 x 61 cm). Monogrammed and numbered. – Two very slight and barely visible handling marks on the lower edge; overall in very good condition and exceptionally beautiful. An excellent, richly nuanced print with a wide margin, very wide at the bottom.
Bastian 90. - One of 45 copies. - Based on a drypoint. - Published in conjunction with the portfolio “Re-Object/Mythos”, which was released to mark two exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Bregenz in 2007 on the themes of the object and myth. - Printed by Recom, Ostfildern. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York, for the Kunsthaus Bregenz, 2007. - Twombly, known for his gestural brushstrokes, vast empty spaces and an inimitable, almost illegible scribbling, developed a style in which every line and colour possesses inherent energy, spirituality and meaning. He creates works in which personal expression is interwoven with mythology, so that narratives, language and inner visions emerge from his abstract notations. Although a contemporary of Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, Twombly’s artistic oeuvre distances itself from American post-war abstraction. Whilst movements such as Pop Art distanced themselves from historical narratives, he explicitly turned to ancient, classical and modern poetic traditions.
