American Modernism Davis, Miles Double study. 1980s. Fibre-tip pen on Similijapan. 35.5 x 28 cm. Signed. – Paper shows slight creasing. Overall in very good condition. Figurative rendering captured in bold strokes. Provenance: Private collection, Berlin. - It was not until the 1980s, towards the end of his life and during a period of musical inactivity, that Miles Davis turned his hand to painting and drawing. The musician was taught by the New York painter Jo Gelbard and, according to accounts, worked on his pieces daily from then on.
