Ice Cream Desserts, c. 1976. Colour aquatint etching and vernis mou on cream-coloured Arches vélin (with watermark). 34 x 54 cm (57 x 76.5 cm). Monogrammed and numbered. – With minimal browning at the very edge of the sheet. Overall in very good condition. A magnificent print, conveying painterly qualities, with margins and a watermark at the top and bottom.
Axsom-Platzker 147.1. – One of 50 copies. – Printed and published by Petersburg Press, London/New York. - Centred at the bottom with the artist’s copyright stamp. - The painterly, multicoloured effect of this work is achieved through the ‘à la poupée’ printing technique, in which several colours can be applied to the printing plate simultaneously. Oldenburg first printed in brown and then applied yellow, green, violet, blue and light violet freely to the second plate, creating the loose, pastel-like style.
Aquatint and soft-ground etching in colours on off-white Arches wove paper (with watermark). Monogrammed and numbered. - With minimal browning in the outer margins. Very good overall.
