Description
Pop Art
Jones, Allen
4 works, in: Catwalk. 1999. Each a colour etching on heavy-weight vellum. Each 98.8 x 69.1 cm (116.3 x 83.3 cm). Each signed, dated and numbered in Roman numerals. In original linen-covered folder. – Isolated, barely visible scuffing in a corner or along the edge; overall in very good condition and exceptionally beautiful. Through and through magnificent prints of the large-format compositions, realising rich contrasts and painterly qualities, each with a wide margin and a bleed margin on two sides.
No longer available from Lloyd. – One of 30 Roman-numbered copies. - Printed by Kurt Zein, Vienna, each bearing his dry stamp. - Published by Galerie Ernst Hilger, Vienna. - In his artistic oeuvre from the late 1960s onwards, Allen Jones critically examines the image of women presented in advertising and magazines. Drawing on the garish, bright and loud visual language of Pop Art, he presents the female body as a marketable, erotically charged stimulus for society. Dressed in provocative clothing, striking provocative poses and transformed into stylised figures, they represent the complex relationship between femininity, perceived image and reality. In ‘Catwalk’, the catwalk becomes a place of presentation, public display and identity.
