Description
Modern Photography
Hütte, Axel
2 works. Sunset 1/Sunset 2. From: Double Exposure. 2002. Each a Cibachrome print on vellum, mounted on Plexiglas. Each 34.5 x 50 cm (50 x 60 cm). Each signed and numbered on the reverse on a label. - Overall very good condition. Magnificent, richly coloured prints.
One of 45 copies. - Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York. - From the portfolio *Double Exposure*, an edition project featuring 14 artists that brings together photographic diptychs and interprets the concept of double exposure as the pairing of two photographs. - These two works by Axel Hütte depict water surfaces whose reflections of light and vegetation dissolve into patterns of colour and texture that oscillate between abstraction and figuration. Hütte, who studied under Bernd and Hilla Becher, turned his attention – unlike many of his fellow students such as Gurky, Struth and Höfer – to the ephemeral and the atmospheric, and in his photographs creates access to light, reflection and the natural environment, rather than remaining at an analytical distance. The mounting on Plexiglas enhances the luminosity of the Cibachrome prints and lends the images a visual presence that constantly shifts between painting and photography.
