Description
Modern Photography Ruff, Thomas 2 works. Bronx I. From: Sequences. 1998. Each a granolithograph on smooth Fabriano Velin paper. Each 30 x 30 cm (50 x 40 cm). Each signed and numbered on the reverse, and bearing the publisher’s stamp. - Overall in very good condition. A magnificent, high-contrast print with a grainy, richly coloured effect. Schellmann 83–84. – One of 60 copies each. – Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York. - ‘Bronx I’ draws on the principle of the stereo photographs produced by Thomas Ruff in the mid-1990s: two almost identical aerial photographs of the same neighbourhood mimic the slightly offset perspective of the left and right eyes. When viewed through a stereoscope, the images merge into an immersive three-dimensional scene, transforming documentary urban photography into a physically tangible experience. Ruff thus reveals that seeing is not a neutral act, but a constructive process that takes place in the brain. Giclée print on Fabriano Velin paper.
