Modern Photography Rainer, Anulf and Nitsch, Hermann 4 works. Each a silver gelatine print on photographic paper. Circa 1975–80. On the reverse, studio and gallery stamps, each bearing typographic details of the artist and the work. - Corners slightly bumped. Occasional small creases. One print shows signs of oxidation; a sticker applied on the reverse is slightly visible on the front. Overall in good condition. The prints are generally clean. Studio photographs based on works by Arnulf Rainer and Hermann Nitsch. – Includes: 2 photographs by Rainer from the Death Mask series (Franz Liszt and Karl Schönherr), 1978; 1 sheet with a stamp on the reverse. - 2 photographs by Nitsch relating to performances by the Orgien-Mysterien-Theater (including ‘Bahre’, 48th performance, Paris 1975). - From the 1950s onwards, Arnulf Rainer developed his characteristic practice of overpainting, in which existing picture surfaces are transformed through gestural interventions and imbued with existential significance. Hermann Nitsch is one of the key figures of Viennese Actionism and, with his Orgien-Mysterien-Theater, created performative works that transform the body, material and ritual action into an intense, often boundary-pushing visual practice. Both approaches exemplify a radical expansion of the concept of art in the Austrian post-war context. 4 works. Each a silver gelatine print on photographic paper.
