Description
Modern and Contemporary Art American Modernism Calder, Alexander Unpublished tapestries. 1973. Colour lithograph on smooth offset paper. 47.5 x 60.3 cm (59.3 x 65.3 cm). Signed in stone and featuring typographic text relating to the exhibition. Mounted in places on backing board and beneath the passe-partout. - A crease and slight scuffing in the lower left-hand corner; slightly visible mounting ripples along the upper edge. Occasional light handling marks and small brown spots on the reverse. Overall in good condition. An excellent print with fresh, rich colours, featuring an image that almost fills the entire sheet. Published as a poster to mark the exhibition of the same name at the Galerie Jacques Damase, Paris, in 1973. - The colour lithograph was based on the tapestry ‘Le Profil qui disparait’, which Alexander Calder designed for Aubusson around 1973. - Printed by Arts Litho, Paris. Colour lithograph on smooth offset paper. Signed in the stone and bearing typographic text about the exhibition of the same name. Spot-mounted to an underlying mat and under mat. - Lower left corner showing minimal creasing and bumping; upper margin with barely visible traces of mounting; occasional light traces of handling and small brownish stains on the reverse. All in all, in good condition. A superb print, rich in colour and contrast, of the almost full-scale depiction.
