German Post-War Modernism
Girke, Raimund
Untitled. c. 1990. Silkscreen print in black and grey on thin, smooth vellum. 80 x 40 cm. Signed and numbered. - A few slight handling marks; very isolated, pinpoint surface stains in the black; on the reverse, two linear print marks, showing very slight show-through on the obverse; overall in very good condition. An absolutely excellent print that fills the sheet.
One of only 20 copies. - Girke, who is primarily known for his works in white, remarkably chooses the colour black in this late work. With bold, broad brushstrokes, he applies it to the paper, creating an informal composition full of movement and energy. Significantly, he achieves this precisely through the use of the ‘non-colour’ black, which is typically associated with darkness, the absence of light and a profound sense of weight.
Silkscreen in black and grey on light, smooth wove paper. Signed and numbered. – A few slight signs of handling, a very isolated tiny superficial stain in black; on the reverse, two linear pressure marks, barely showing through onto the front; all in all, very good condition. A superb, full-format impression. – One of only 20 copies.
