Kliemann, Carl-Heinz
Untitled. 1981. Watercolour chalk and graphite pencil on vellum. 99.5 x 70 cm. Signed and dated. Framed behind glass. – Overall in very good condition.
Carl-Heinz Kliemann’s practice in drawing and painting is a tentative act of seeing, characterised by a search for balance between line, surface and space. In this work, watercolour chalk and graphite combine to form a finely balanced composition that appears neither spontaneous nor contrived, but rather as if it had grown organically. The graphite sets directions and provides structure, whilst the watercolour chalk creates atmosphere through soft transitions and opens up the space.
