Modern and Contemporary Art German Post-War Modernism Kopfermann, Sigrid Blue Flowers. 1985. Gouache on handmade paper. 63 x 84.5 cm. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse on a cold-foam board. Mounted on a backing board and framed under glass, unopened. – Overall, appears to be in very good condition. A vibrant work with fresh colours. Sigrid Kopfermann is one of the leading figures of German Informel. After studying under Willy Jaeckel and Bernhard Dörries in Berlin, she turned away from representational painting and developed a free, abstract visual language. Extended working stays in the French Maritime Alps, in France, the USA and Peru during the 1980s provided significant inspiration for her artistic practice. Characteristic of this creative phase of the German artist’s career are her floral paintings, to which this work also belongs. Gouache on handmade paper. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse of the foam board backing. Mounted on a support and framed behind glass, unopened. – Overall, apparently in very good condition. A luminous work, with fresh and vibrant colours. - Sigrid Kopfermann ranks among the most important representatives of German Informel. After studying under Willy Jaeckel and Bernhard Dörries in Berlin, she turned away from representational painting and developed a free abstract visual language. Extended working stays in the French Maritime Alps, France, the United States and Peru during the 1980s provided important impetus for her artistic development.
