Description
Modern and Contemporary Art
German Post-War Modernism
Otto, Michael
Renovation of the Brandenburg Gate. 1997. Oil on canvas. 65 x 56.5 cm. Signed, signed on the reverse, dated and titled. – In very good condition overall. An expressive work with fresh colours.
This work is characteristic of Otto’s oeuvre; he studied at the Berlin University of the Arts in the 1960s and repeatedly focused his work on seemingly unspectacular scenes. The depiction of the building site at the Brandenburg Gate reflects an everyday scene in a cubist-style setting, where the figures, like uniform extras, appear to be part of a larger order.
