Description
Modern and Contemporary Art German Post-War Modernism Reuter, Hans Peter Colour-Space. 1980. Watercolour on Velin board. 20 x 15 cm. Signed and dated. Mounted on backing board. - A few very small, isolated spots. Overall in very good condition. Since the early 1970s, Hans Peter Reuter has created illusionistic, mostly blue-monochrome pictorial spaces, which are fundamentally based on a square grid and modelled through perspective, light and shadow. This watercolour, too, features a uniform tiled grid, structured by the light falling in from the top left. Caught between radical abstraction and a devotion to illusionism, Reuter pursued a ‘systematisation of the chaotic’ (Reuter) and, working on this premise, created images that do not depict space but rather represent it as an autonomous system.
