La Sirène de Paris. 1962. Lithograph on wide-margin Velin d’Arches. 32 x 59 cm (43 x 62.8 cm). Signed in stone. A magnificent, rich print of the large-format image with margins, featuring the pull-up margin on the right.
Juffermans JL 35. – Rare. One of 30 copies of the special edition on wide-margin Velin d’Arches. – The mermaid is usually facing forwards and looking directly at the viewer. Her face appears expansive and her eyes are emphasised with an almond shape, creating a mysterious, slightly dreamy aura. Her hair is often voluminous and rendered in bold colours; the composition is lively and expressive. She appears to be sitting on the water or on a riverbank. The background often features abstract, urban references to Paris, such as the silhouette of the Seine or hinted-at urban elements. Vivid colours and expressive lines characterise this significant example of Fauvism.
