Man Waiting in an Arcadian Landscape. 1895. Pastel on vellum. 15.6 x 8.7 cm. Signed and dated on the backing. Mounted on a backing board and set in a passe-partout. – Slight traces of adhesive from the mounting in the corners. Overall in good condition. The colours are fresh.
An Impressionist landscape study featuring a seated figure in the foreground. The German painter Hermann Urban decided to study art at the end of the 19th century on the advice of Wilhelm Leibl. This work was created 10 years after the artist’s admission to the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich, where he trained under Karl Raupp, Johann Caspar Herterich and a leading representative of the Munich School, Wilhelm von Diez.
