Carzou, Jean Marie
(I. Les Tuileries. II. La Maison dans les arbres. III. Homme à cheval). 1962. Signed and numbered. Four works. Each a colour lithograph on Japon Nacré. 37.5 x 29 cm (43 x 33 cm) to 39 x 59.9 cm (43.3 x 62.8 cm). Each a magnificent, rich and well-defined print with margins, featuring a bleed margin on the lower and right-hand sides.
Rare. One of 10 copies of the special edition on Japon Nacré. – *Les Tuileries* depicts the Parisian park of the same name, with Carzou interpreting the landscape through a blend of realism and abstract elements. The lines are fluid and dynamic, the colours understated, conveying a sense of tranquillity and movement at the same time. The shades are mostly muted and subtle, lending the depiction a peaceful, almost dreamlike atmosphere.*La Maison dans les arbres* depicts a surreal, poetic scene of a house amidst the trees, rendered in a clear, modern lithograph with fine lines and harmonious colouring. The composition appears calm, yet conveys a deeper symbolism of nature and urbanity. *Homme à cheval* depicts a horseman as the central motif, abstracted and stylised into geometric forms, typical of Carzou’s lyrical style. The image combines movement with static balance, supported by a balanced colour palette and clear contours.
