Modern and Contemporary Art Classical Modernism - Picasso, Pablo 2 works. Femme accondée / Tête de Femme (in profile). 1962. Each a linocut on heavy vellum. Each 27 x 22.2 cm (32 x 38.5 cm). – Each with slight paper loss along the left margin, some minimal brown spots and the paper slightly yellowed. Overall in very good condition. Excellent, richly coloured prints with margins. Bloch 922 and 905. – Each a reduced-scale version based on the linocuts of the same name from 1959. - Picasso invented the ‘reduction’ method, in which the same linoleum block was cut out for each new colour variation, thereby making it impossible to produce further prints from the original printing block. In 1962, in collaboration with Picasso and the Galerie Louise Leiris, new linocut plates were produced at 42 per cent of the original size; the works presented here are from that edition. Each linocut is printed on heavy wove paper. - Each has minor paper loss along the left margin, occasional minimal brown spots and the paper is slightly yellowed. Overall in very good condition. Superb, colour-rich prints with margins. - Each is a reduced version based on the linocuts of the same title produced in 1959. - Picasso devised the method of ‘réduction’ (reduction printing), whereby the same linoleum block was progressively cut for each new colour state, making further prints from the original block impossible. In 1962, in collaboration with Picasso and the Galerie Louise Leiris, new linoleum blocks were produced at 42 per cent of the original size; the present works originate from this edition.
