Bacchanal with a Black Bull. 1962. Linocut on heavy-weight vellum. 27 x 32.5 cm (32 x 38.4 cm). - Left margin with a narrow, vertical tear and slight paper wear. Slightly brown-stained in the margins, very faintly so on the reverse as well. Overall in good condition. A magnificent, vibrantly coloured print with a narrow margin.
Cf. Bloch 935 (motif). – Our print is a reduced version based on the linocut of the same name from 1959. - Picasso invented the ‘reduction’ method, in which the same linoleum block was gradually cut away for each new colour, making it impossible to produce further prints from the original printing block. In 1962, in collaboration with Picasso and the Galerie Louise Leiris, new linocut plates were produced at 42 per cent of the original size; the present work is from that edition.
