A series of 26 phototypes, some coloured using the pochoir technique and mostly full-page, on B. F. K. vélin, based on original drawings. In: Paul Eluard. Le Dur Désir de Durer. Paris. 1946. Approx. 38.5 x 27 cm each (sheet size). Loose half-sheets, folded once, in the original French paperback with typographic title on the front cover and spine. – Excellent prints with fresh colouring.
One of 6 numbered ‘H. C.’ contributor’s copies from the second batch of 330 numbered copies on Vélin B. F. K. (GA 355). - Published by Arnold-Bordas. - Eluard stated that he had already known whilst writing that the work would be illustrated by Chagall. These are reproduced with particularly vivid and fresh colours using the refined reproduction technique of pochoir-coloured phototypes, invented by Daniel Jacomet around 1900. - The spine of the paperback has some damage; some of the pages are slightly browned at the edges, occasionally with light foxing and slight discolouration.
