10 (of 13) works, in: *Le Bal Masque*. 1965–67. Each a colour lithograph or colour offset lithograph on (folded double sheet) (BFK Rives) vellum (with watermark). Sheet size: 52.6 x 75.4 cm each. The colour lithographs are each monogrammed; the colour offset lithographs are each monogrammed in stone. In original cover, in original raw linen slipcase. With accompanying text sheets; the printer’s mark signed by Marcel Jouhandeau, Félia Léal and Oskar Kokoschka. - Some slight handling marks, very few, very slight creases, very slightly browned at the edges, some with pale water stains at the edges, very few sheets with isolated, pale (finger) stains; overall in good condition. Consistently excellent, chalky prints with margins, on one or two pages with the paper’s natural edge.
Wingler-Welz 367, 368, 369 and 373. – One of 71 copies each (GA: 155 copies). - Contains:- ‘The stag, the swan are masks’ – ‘In the swan that descends upon the waters’ – ‘For me, our true physiognomy’ – ‘The effigy that Amélia brandishes’. - The largely preserved series for Giuseppe Verdi’s opera *Le Bal Masque*, with libretto by Marcel Jouhandeau. The colour offset lithographs based on Kokoschka’s designs for stage sets and costumes for a performance of the opera in Florence in 1962. - Printed by J.E. Wolfensberger, Zurich. - Edited by Félia Léal for “Les grands illustrés par les peintres contemporains”.
