Couple in a Landscape. 1925. Pastel on vellum. 44 x 32.5 cm. Signed and dated. Mounted under a passe-partout in places. - A small, wine-coloured hole in the centre; slight crease marks; a small tear at the top left beneath the passe-partout; on the reverse, subtle stains and residues from previous mounting. Overall in good condition. The colours are vibrant.
This work belongs to the early oeuvre of the Hamburg-based artist, who trained as a master student of Willy von Beckerath. Following extended travels through France, England and the Orient, he developed a visual language in which influences of Surrealism are combined with elements of New Objectivity.
