Modern and Contemporary Art East German Art Blume-Benzler, Christel 3 works. Ball Game, At Holiday Camp, Skipping. 1966/1969. Each an etching on vellum. 43 x 28 cm to 32 x 43 cm. (37 x 48 cm – 57 x 43.5 cm). 2 sheets mounted in a passe-partout. Partially brown-stained and slightly yellowed; some darkening within the passe-partout cut-out. Occasional slight surface scuffing. One sheet shows mounting marks on the recto. Overall in good condition. Vivid, expressive prints with plate margins and wide margins. Christel Blume-Benzler is one of Leipzig’s post-war female artists. After studying at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig under Walter Arnold, Max Schwimmer and Kurt Masslow, she worked as a painter and printmaker and was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR from 1952 to 1990. Her graphic work is characterised by a dynamic, confidently executed line, figurative scenes and a particular interest in everyday life, play and human movement. Each etching on woven paper. 2 sheets mounted under passe-partout. - Some brown spots and slight yellowing; darkened in places within the passe-partout opening. Occasional minor surface abrasions.
