Peter Kuckei’s works on paper represent a subtle distillation of his painterly and draughtsman-like thinking. Kuckei is not concerned with reproducing concrete appearances, but rather with situations that arise in his mind’s eye. The choice of paper as a medium helps to emphasise the immediate, often seemingly spontaneous gesture: colour, line and material meet on a surface that is at once a receptacle, a surface and a repository of traces.
