Brahim DAHAK (Tunis, 1931 - 2004) La Geste Hilalienne, 1974 Set of four original xylographs in colour on arch paper. 64 × 49 cm (per plate) Each plate signed in pencil in Latin and Arabic characters, and justified 30/100, dated 74 *** A set of four original woodcuts in colours, 25¼ × 19¼ in. (sheet); each signed in pencil in Latin and Arabic characters, numbered 30/100, dated 74. A self-taught member of the dynamic Tunis School, Brahim Dahak completed his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome from 1957 to 1961, where he was a pupil of the painter Amerigo Bartoli and the master engraver Macari, and was awarded the Carlo Giviera prize in 1961. On his return to Tunisia, he taught drawing in Sfax before devoting himself fully to his work, developing his engraving practice in his studio in Sidi Bou Saïd. He stayed at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 1972. Winner of the Grand Prix de la Ville de Tunis in 1991 and the Prix National des Arts Plastiques in 1994, he has exhibited regularly in Tunisia and abroad since his first solo show in Tunis in 1964.
