Initiated and directed by Gaston Diehl (1912-1999), a French diplomat stationed in Morocco and cultural director of the University Mission, this collection constitutes the first monographic corpus devoted to the pioneers of modern Moroccan painting. Diehl, who also helped finance the journal Souffles, played a decisive role in the international recognition of this founding generation.
