Painted in 2013. A self-taught painter and sculptor, Abdelkader Laâraj took his first steps alongside the major figures of the Casablanca Movement, notably Mohamed Melehi and Mohamed Chabaâ, whom he assisted before forging his own pictorial language. His work is characterised by the meeting of abstraction and figuration in a universe of dreamlike, colourful and symbolic forms. The female body - a recurring motif - emerges in compositions that play on light, decorative motifs and elegant stylisation. Laâraj's work can be found in several public and private collections in Morocco and abroad.
