Mohammed KHADDA (Algeria 1930 -1991) Festival of popular music and songs. [Algiers, 1969]. Colour offset poster. 69 × 49 cm *** Colour offset poster (27⅛ × 19¼ in.) Trained as a printer, Khadda maintained a special relationship with typography and the printing arts throughout his life. The four posters presented here are a little-known but revealing facet of his work: he deploys the same plastic vocabulary as on his canvases - stylised calligraphy, sign structure, strong contrasts - in the service of the major cultural and political events of post-independence Algeria. A field of experimentation in which the artist doubles up as a committed player in his time.
