Born in October 1946 in Clos Salembier (now El Madania, Algiers), Moussa Bourdine presents the profile of a talented self-taught artist with modest beginnings. He eventually enrolled at the Société des Beaux-Arts d'Alger, where he studied watercolour under Camille Leroy from 1966 to 1969. He was a founder member of the "Groupe des 35" in the 1980s, and in 1984, under the direction of M'Hamed Issiakhem, produced a series of portraits of martyrs for the Musée Central de l'Armée, as well as works for the Musée National des Beaux-Arts in Algiers. His first group exhibition took place in 1973 at the Galerie Racim in Algiers; he subsequently exhibited regularly in Algeria and abroad. His work oscillates between figurative, semi-figurative and abstract, with a light, luminous touch that cultivates spontaneity - for him, painting is above all emotion.
