From the age of 14, Di-Maccio demonstrated his precocious talent by winning first prize in drawing at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Algiers, his home town. He continued his training in Paris, attending the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts, where he perfected his technique. His first solo exhibitions took place in Paris in 1979, where he was enthusiastically received.
