Turki and lower right in Arabic *** Gouache and pencil on paper, signed lower left and lower right in Arabic (25¼ × 19¾ in.) Provenance Private collection Habib Boulares (1933-2014), Tunisian journalist, writer and statesman. The motif of the ribbon wrapped around a female head is not new to Turki's work: in 1982 he signed the official poster for the Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage, where a filmstrip girdles the face of a monumentalised female figure in the same way. In Woman with a Blue Ribbon, the black of the film gives way to blue, shifting the cinematographic reference to a more pictorial dimension.
