Meriem BOUDERBALA (Tunis, born 1960) Untitled, 1991 Mixed media on canvas 147 x 127 cm *** Mixed media on canvas (57⅞ × 50 in.) Meriem Bouderbala trained at the École supérieure d'art d'Aix-en-Provence, from which she graduated in engraving and painting in 1985. She continued her studies at the engraving department of Chelsea College of Arts in London. Nourished by her dual Tunisian and French culture, she developed a critical reflection on the Eastern world and the status of women in the Arab world. She works on a variety of media - canvas, paper, glass, fabric - enriching her paintings with materials such as iron filings and sand. An Officier des Arts et des Lettres since 2016, her works feature in the permanent collections of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.
