Adegboyega Adesina has developed a mixed media practice centred on portraits of black subjects with rich chromatic palettes and a resolutely contemporary aesthetic, tinged with an imagination somewhere between fairytale and cartoon. His work is a personal and documentary investigation of contemporary Nigeria: through metaphorical representations of reality, he questions the effects of colonialism and digital globalisation on African culture and the identity of millennials. Each portrait becomes both an intimate expression and an act of collective memory, affirming the individual's belonging to a changing community.
