Emanuel Tegene (Ethiopia, born 1985) Angel, Love Read, 2013 Acrylic on canvas 40 x 40 cm (framed) Signed, titled and dated on the back Born in 1985 in Ethiopia, Emanuel Tegene lives and works in Addis Ababa. Trained at the TMS Art School of Addis Ababa University after an initially self-taught career, over the last fifteen years he has developed a neo-expressionist language rooted in Ethiopian stories while opening up to global influences, working in oils, acrylics, ink, charcoal and pastels. In 2018, he participated in the 13th Dakar Biennale The Red Hour, under the curatorial direction of Simon Njami. His work has also been shown at the Marrakech Biennale (2016), the Armory Show (African Perspectives) and Addis Fine Art Gallery (Addis Calling).
