Executed circa 1945. Kishan Chand Aryan was a self-taught painter and sculptor from a family of Punjabi artists. He set up a studio in Lahore before moving to Delhi in 1947, where he took part in the Delhi Silpi Chakra collective. His work evolved from figurative works inspired by Kangra miniatures to abstract metal assemblages, which won him the National Prize of the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1964. At the same time, he collected and studied folk and tribal art, publishing more than twenty works on these traditions.
