Louis XIV 1643–1715 Quadruple piéfort of the double Louis with short locks, Paris, 1644, AU 53.91 g. Edge inscription: PONDERE. SANCTUARII. Obverse: Childlike head of the king facing right, wearing a laurel wreath, with short hair. Reverse: Cross formed of eight interlocking Ls, flanked by four lilies. Mint mark within a heart-shaped circle. Ref: G. 257 (R5), Ciani 1783 Grading: PCGS SPECIMEN 53. TOP POP Condition: almost Superb. Of the utmost rarity. Weighs 8 Louis d’or. A very fine specimen.
